Local Traffic Management Review Old A120

 

Many thanks for the exhibition held at the Silver Jubilee Hall last week. Takeley Parish Council found it very helpful, although they have concerns with the recommendations outlined in the proposals and the time line delay before possible future physical speed reducing measures are considered.

 

Although it is to be hoped that the opening of the new A120 will improve traffic flow and safety along the old road, many feel that vehicle speeds are likely to increase and along with it the chances of sever traffic accidents. Many others believe that there will be little relief from rat running along adjacent country lanes until the closure of the Coopers End roundabout.

 

There appears to be no remit for an integrated solution to the problems that beset the outlying communities along the old road and many believe relief will be short lived or in the case of Mole Hill Green and Broxted, non-existent.

 

Clarification needs to be given to the declassification of the old A120 to the B1256, as many have heard comments to the contrary on the radio.

 

Speed limits along the old road are too complicated and need to be set at 40mph and 30mph only.

 

Signing on the M11 at Junction 8A needs to clearly indicate the route east to Great Dunmow, Braintree, Chelmsford & Colchester as well as Stansted Airport, or traffic will still exist at Junction 8 to travel eastwards.

 

Coopers End must be shut as soon as possible to deter rat running from the Thaxted area to Stansted Airport and the M11.

 

If no physical traffic calming measures are to be considered until a lengthy review of traffic movements, then TPC are very concerned that no funding will be left to finance this part of the project.

 

The Four Ashes junction should be redesigned to reduce traffic flow from two lanes to one in each direction and the traffic lights phased to give priority to the B183.

 

The traffic lights planned for the Barkers Tank development should be abandoned.

 

Pegasus crossings in the Takeley stretch of the old road should be planned, at a point adjacent to the proposed Priors Green development.

 

New bridges across the new A120 at Parsonage Road, Warish Hall and Bambers Green encourage high speed and speed limits of 40mph should be introduced on these roads.

 

While TPC welcome the programme to improve traffic flow on the old road, it must be stressed that an improved quality of life for residents and a renewed community culture must also be a consideration in the outcomes. Without an integrated approach to the whole issue no satisfactory solution will be made.
